30 Before 30

Well, I went for my 1st guitar lesson with Dan Smith on Monday. While a lot of the lesson was discussing logistics (a bit oddly and aggressively on his end if you ask me) he did manage to teach me the basic chords to the song “Stand by Me” and helped me get a realistic sense of what learning the guitar would be like.

It was quite exciting to actually see my fingers make some sense on the strings. Guitar is very different from the piano in that at first glance, how you create chords seems very arbitrary on the guitar whereas on the piano, it seems more linear and patterned. But who knows…that could just be because i’ve been playing piano for so long.

Before I left, he gave me a handout of the song and, just in case I’d forget who he was when I got home, a guitar pick that said, “Dan Smith will teach you guitar.”

Me thinks he really needs to self-promote a bit more…
